TV6 at Candidates Forum

HOUGHTON COUNTY — Children’s issues were the focus of a candidates forum held in the Keweenaw last Friday. Democrat Scott Dianda and Republican Matt Huuki both running to represent the 110th District took the stage first.
Both agreed U.P. teens need to turn to outdoor activities as opposed to substance abuse but differed on when to raise taxes and the importance of arts in education.
Democrat Mike Lahti and Republican Tom Casperson, who are both running for State Senate, followed and had more in common including their pro life stance on abortion.”This is important so that voters of the community can listen to the different candidates and what they stand for,” said interested voter, Clarence McDonald.

Audience members were encouraged to submit their own questions to the candidates.

2010 Candidates Forum on Youth Issues

HOUGHTON – The four candidates for the state House of Representatives 110th District and Senate 38th District met in the Houghton High School auditorium Friday to give their positions on child and youth issues.

The candidates’ forum was sponsored by Copper Country Human Services Coordinating Body, Copper Country Great Start Collaborative, Copper Country Coalition for a Drug-Free Community, League of Women Voters of the Copper Country, Superior Child Abuse Prevention Council, and Upper Peninsula Children’s Coalition.
